Starlink, led by Elon Musk, has established 20 gateway sites in India with the aim of providing satellite communication services to the Indian market. Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Business Operations at Starlink in SpaceX, announced at the Mobile India 2026 conference that the company has developed specific security controls for India to comply with Indian security requirements and regulations.

Investment in Infrastructure

Dreyer stated that Starlink has launched its operations specifically for India by investing in the necessary infrastructure and has established controls at all levels to keep Indian user data within the country. The Indian government has granted licenses to three satellite communication companies, including Starlink, to provide services in the country.

Collaboration with Indian Entities

Dreyer also mentioned that Starlink has closely collaborated with regulatory bodies, industry stakeholders, and operators over the past five years to align its operations with Indian requirements and prepare for market entry. He emphasized that the company has invested in the necessary operations to serve the Indian market since establishing ground infrastructure, including 20 gateway sites with hundreds of antennas.

He also referred to India's digital achievements, stating, "What India has achieved in the digital space is remarkable." This remark reflects Starlink's respect for Indian technological advancements and the company's willingness to collaborate with the country.

SpaceX Technology Vision

Dreyer further discussed SpaceX's broader technology efforts, which include the reusable Falcon 9 rockets and the next-generation Starship launch vehicle. He also spoke about SpaceX's plans to develop large-scale artificial intelligence computing capacity and expand Starlink's high-speed connectivity to areas where traditional infrastructure cannot serve.

He added, "With Falcon 9 rockets, the reality is that reusable rockets at scale have become a reality, and we have incorporated all our learnings into the next generation of the Starship launch vehicle that has recently reached orbit." Additionally, Dreyer announced the development of large-scale artificial intelligence computing on Earth and in the future in space to fully harness solar energy.

As a pioneer in satellite communication technology, Starlink demonstrates its commitment to providing quality services and maintaining the privacy of Indian users by establishing necessary infrastructure and closely collaborating with the Indian government and entities.
