Atletico Madrid managed to win 2-1 against Real Madrid in a crucial match in the Madrid derby. This match, held at the Metropolitano Stadium, took place in the seventh round of La Liga on Sunday. The red card for Din Hojin in the second half had a significant impact on the flow of the game and allowed Atletico to rise to second place in the table.
The red card for Hojin and its impact on the result
The game started with high intensity and excitement, but there were not many scoring opportunities in the first half. Meanwhile, Real Madrid's goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, was rarely tested in the first half, but he had to save a shot from Lee Kang-in in one situation. The second half changed with the red card for Din Hojin, a Real Madrid defender, for a foul on Giuliano Simeone. This red card was issued after a VAR review and reduced Real to 10 men.
After Hojin's red card, Atletico took advantage of their numerical superiority, and Alex Grimado successfully converted a penalty into a goal. This goal made Grimado the second penalty scorer in the last three matches and put Atletico ahead. Following that, Atletico quickly scored a second goal as Giuliano Simeone provided an accurate cross for Jonathan David to score the second goal with a precise shot.
Real Madrid's reaction and the end of the match
With the reduction in players and trailing by two goals, Atletico seemed to have control of the game. However, in the final minutes, Antonio Rudiger scored with a header from a free kick by Bernardo Silva, bringing hope back to Real Madrid and changing the score to 2-1. This goal increased the pressure on Atletico, and they had to work hard to maintain their lead.
Despite the pressure from Real Madrid and the enthusiastic cheers of the fans in the stadium, Atletico managed to hold on to their advantage until the end of the match and secured this important victory. This result continued Atletico's good record at home against Real Madrid, and they have now remained unbeaten in their last four La Liga matches against this team.
This defeat marked Real Madrid's second loss of the season, causing them to drop to third place in the table. While Atletico rose to second place with this victory, Real Madrid will continue to seek a return to their best form.
