Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are still at the top of the Bundesliga table after 2-1 victories against Mainz and Elversberg on Saturday. The two teams, who drew 2-2 in Munich last week, are tied with 21 points, with Bayern leading due to goal difference.
Brilliant Performance by Kane and Kimmich
In this match, Philipp Tietz's late goal could not help the hosts, and Bayern secured their third victory in their last seven Bundesliga matches. Harry Kane, Bayern's English striker, provided two assists in this game after winning his Ballon d'Or in late October. He assisted Joshua Kimmich in the 14th minute and also scored for Lennart Grill in the second half. Kane has shown he remains one of the best players this season with 10 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.
Joshua Kimmich also expressed his happiness after scoring in this game that Kane extended his contract with the club until 2029. He said: "He is one of the reasons for the coordination among the players. He is a Ballon d'Or level player, but he never neglects the little things. He is always there for each of his teammates, and that is really special."
Bayern's Challenges and Dortmund's Brilliance
Bayern, who had defeated Atletico Madrid 2-0 midweek, continues to face a list of absentees. Without the presence of Vincent Kompany, the team's coach returning from illness, they were also missing Jamal Musiala, Luis Díaz, Ismaël Saïbari, and Serge Gnabry. Kimmich returned to the field last week after a leave due to his father's passing and expressed his emotions after scoring.
In other matches, Borussia Dortmund defeated Elversberg with the brilliance of Flex Nmecha, who scored two goals in the second half. However, Noel Futtkeu's goal in the 81st minute created tension in the final minutes of the game for Dortmund. Nmecha said: "It may seem boring, but we just have to take it game by game. It's a very long season, and we have to continue like this."
Meanwhile, RB Leipzig also won against Augsburg 5-2, continuing their excellent home form. The team, which lost to Manchester City in the Champions League, is now three points behind Bayern and Dortmund. Leipzig has not conceded a goal at home this season and has scored 23 goals in five home Bundesliga matches while only conceding two.
