British police interrogated five men on Monday in connection with allegations of terrorist and explosive activities. These individuals were arrested near RAF Fairford airbase, which had previously been used by the United States for attacks on Iran.

Details of the arrest and security concerns

Police forces detained the three men in the early hours of Sunday after receiving a report about the sighting of three large white vans heading towards the military base. Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the suspects were seeking to cause significant harm and were under investigation by British and U.S. authorities. A local farmer reported that a group of men wearing helmets and masks had run towards the fields and informed the police about it.

Investigations and potential motives

Investigations conducted by British counter-terrorism detectives have not publicly commented on the identity of the suspects. However, a knowledgeable source has suggested a possible motive related to Iran, which is considered the most likely option. The possibility of a sabotage operation by Russia or an Islamic plot is also being examined. Defense Secretary, Ben Wallace, stated in an interview that he would not speculate on the motives behind these ongoing investigations.

He added: "We know that Iran and its representatives want to harm us. They hate our democracy, and from time to time we must thwart Iran's efforts to threaten our interests or those of our allies." In May, Britain sanctioned 12 individuals and entities linked to Iran accused of hostile activities.

The British government has allowed the United States to use bombers stationed at Fairford to attack missile sites in Iran that were targeting ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Following this incident, police established a 400-meter cordon around the base and evacuated 85 homes.

Security forces at other U.S. military bases in Britain have also heightened security measures.
