The Chinese-Saudi consortium has signed a contract worth 1.15 billion riyals (approximately 306 million dollars) to work on the planned World Cup stadium in Qiddiya. This contract was signed as Saudi Arabia continues to advance its long-term plans in sports and entertainment, despite disruptions caused by Houthi attacks on the country's immediate event calendar.

Contract Details

The IKK Fangda JV Co, 51% owned by the Chinese Fangda Group and 49% owned by the Saudi company Isam Qabani and Partners, signed the contract on October 18. This agreement includes the design, supply, and installation of the external façade systems for the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium in Qiddiya, located on the outskirts of Riyadh.

This contract also includes the main stadium building, a museum, and ancillary buildings, with work expected to be completed in 863 days. The stadium, which has a capacity of over 45,000 spectators, overlooks the Tuwaig cliffs and is one of the planned venues for hosting the FIFA World Cup 2034 in Saudi Arabia.

Dimensions of Saudi Arabia's Sports Programs

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has made extensive efforts to become an international sports destination. Through significant investments in sports infrastructure and hosting major global events, the country aims to strengthen its position in the sports arena. To this end, plans are underway to build stadiums and other sports facilities in various parts of the country.

Recent developments reflect Saudi Arabia's determination to advance these goals despite security challenges. However, the frequent Houthi attacks on the country's infrastructure have raised concerns about their impact on sports and entertainment programs. Nevertheless, the Saudis continue their efforts and seek to strengthen their position on the global stage.
