The Olympic culture and values education program, titled "Olympic Torch Tour in Olympic Values in the Sultanate of Oman," is entering its second phase in several provinces of Oman. This program, organized by the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) in collaboration with the Oman Olympic Academy (OOA), is part of ongoing efforts to promote Olympic culture and raise awareness about the principles of the Olympic movement and its educational and human values.

Program Halt in Al Buraimi Province and Continuation in Musandam Province

The halt of the program in Al Buraimi Province concluded two days ago, and activities will continue today (Tuesday) in Musandam Province. This tour will then move to Dhofar Province on October 18 and 19, which is part of a plan to expand access to this program and attract diverse groups in the sports, educational, and social sectors.

Main Components of the Program and Its Goals

This program is one of the initiatives supported by the International Olympic Committee through Olympic solidarity. It is designed based on the educational materials and guidelines of the Olympic Values Education Program (OVEP), which promotes the use of sports as a tool for education and character development. The goal of this program is to institutionalize positive behaviors among youth, athletes, and students by connecting sports with human and educational values.

The program is presented by Hisham bin Salem Al Adwani, the program director, and is supervised by Dr. Ishaq bin Ahmed Al Balushi, the director of the Oman Olympic Academy. This program targets athletes, coaches, and teachers, as well as national staff active in sports institutions, federations, clubs, academies, and community teams to develop qualified national personnel to promote Olympic culture and implement its principles in sports, educational, and social environments.

The program consists of two main sections: the first section focuses on training coaches on Olympic values education and preparing national personnel to convey these values to target groups through focused theoretical and practical workshops. The second section concentrates on initiatives related to Olympic culture and values, encouraging participants to apply their knowledge and skills through practical projects in schools, clubs, sports centers, and other institutions.

This program emphasizes the role of sports in institutionalizing values and promoting positive behaviors by strengthening fair competition, respect for rules, teamwork, and acceptance of others. It also encourages commitment, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence, contributing to the strengthening of the role of sports in personal development and creating educational and sports environments based on respect and collaboration.

The second phase of this program will be held based on previous stops in 2024 in Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah, and South Al Sharqiyah, following its implementation in the Al Wusta and North Al Sharqiyah provinces in the first phase of this year. This tour will continue in other provinces according to the approved schedule and will help expand access to Olympic culture and strengthen its sustainable impact on Omani society.
