The Gulf Cooperation Council, in a statement issued at the end of its 108th meeting in Manama, strongly condemned the Houthi attacks from Yemen on Saudi Arabian positions. The council noted that the targeting of civilian airports and vital facilities in Saudi Arabia has resulted in civilian casualties.
Condemnation of Houthi Attacks and Support for Saudi Arabia
In this statement, the Gulf Cooperation Council continued its support for Riyadh and emphasized the country's right to defend itself. The council also called for the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions regarding Yemen and stressed the need to intensify arms restrictions against the Houthis. According to the Gulf Cooperation Council, these actions could prevent the Houthis from accessing missiles and drones.
Request to List Houthis as a Terrorist Group
The Gulf Cooperation Council further requested the inclusion of the Houthis on the list of terrorist groups. The council also addressed its claims against the Islamic Republic of Iran and condemned the missile and drone attacks attributed to this country against members of the council and Jordan. In this regard, the Gulf Cooperation Council held Iran responsible for these attacks and called for their immediate cessation and compensation for alleged damages.
The foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council member states also emphasized the necessity of returning to dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the current crisis between the United States and Iran. This approach could help reduce tensions and create a more positive atmosphere for negotiations.
