Investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and its model architecture in India is projected to increase fivefold, reaching approximately $769 billion by 2026. This figure reflects the amount of capital flowing into AI, while developers and industry managers are concerned about the speed and safety of the development of this technology.

Increase in Investment and Security Concerns

This prediction is based on nearly $384 billion in investment in the first half of 2026 and assumes that this pace will continue until the end of the year. This figure compares to the $145 billion invested in 2025, making AI infrastructure and model architecture the largest technology trend with the most funding.

This increase in investment coincides with a new wave of funding from major AI companies and their backers. For example, OpenAI is negotiating with investors for additional funding that could value the company at around $1.2 trillion. Additionally, SoftBank has proposed issuing bonds worth $11 billion to fund another $10 billion investment in OpenAI.

Challenges Facing AI Development

However, the investment boom comes alongside growing concerns in the AI industry regarding the speed of technological development and the ability of existing safety measures to keep pace. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has called on the global AI community to slow down the release of new capabilities and provide more time to address security risks.

OpenAI has also called for the establishment of national safety requirements for AI, including independent assessments, cybersecurity measures, and incident reporting for advanced AI systems. The company has urged the United States to lead international efforts to set technical standards for advanced AI and self-improving systems.

Overall, a McKinsey report indicates that five technology trends, including automated software development, AI infrastructure, AI for scientific discovery and engineering, the future of space technologies, and the future of robotics, are set to receive more than double the investment in 2026 compared to 2025. The report also warns that the expansion of AI may face limitations, including energy, talent, and investment shortages.
