A Syrian family mourns their victims following Jordan's airstrike on southern Syria. Nasih Al-Salem, one of the survivors of this attack, speaks with tearful eyes about the loss of his mother, older brother, and three children, two sons and a daughter. He stated, "We were asleep when the missile hit us."

Casualties and Reactions

Jordan's airstrikes on Monday followed a jihadist attack on a church that resulted in the deaths of nine people. Damascus has announced that these strikes caused the deaths of seven people, including three children. In contrast, Jordan claims to have targeted over 20 members of the ISIS group while expressing regret that some of the victims were civilians.

Humanitarian Situation in Daghestan

In the remote village of Al-Taf in Daraa province, a missile struck the living room of the Al-Salem family, causing significant damage to the building. School books and children's clothes are scattered among the rubble. Yasin Al-Salem, a relative, remarked about the victims: "They were in the prime of their youth and innocent. How can a government attack homes without any justification?"

In another ambulance, two men sat next to a child who appeared to be unconscious. Funeral services for the victims will be held on Tuesday. Jordan has stated that these attacks were aimed at targeting "terrorist organizations" and a large weapons depot of the ISIS group.

Hours before these attacks, Jordanian officials announced the arrest of three Jordanians -- two brothers and a relative -- accused of carrying out the deadly attack on the church in Karak province.

Families gathered outside the hospital in Daraa province, with one woman crying on another's shoulder. Mohammad Al-Fadhil, the head nurse of the hospital, said: "We received the bodies of three children aged between eight and ten years, as well as the body of a woman around 60 years old, believed to be their grandmother."

The airstrikes have turned into the largest crisis between Jordan and Syria since the rise of Islamic authorities in Damascus, especially following the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024. Syria condemned these attacks, stating that they were carried out without prior coordination. Additionally, the country closed its main border crossing with Jordan on Tuesday due to the current circumstances, suspending all passenger and commercial traffic.
