Jos Buttler, England's wicketkeeper-batter, became the first batter from his country to score over 10,000 runs in total ODI and T20I matches during a historic match in Leeds. This record showcases his exceptional abilities in limited overs cricket and reinforces his position as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.

Impressive Performance in the Second ODI Match

During the second ODI match against Sri Lanka, Buttler delivered a stunning performance, scoring 69 runs off 49 balls, including five fours and five sixes. This performance came as his team was striving to reach a target of 322 runs. Buttler brought entertaining moments for the fans before he had to leave the game due to injury.

Now, with 204 ODI matches and 176 innings, Buttler has accumulated 5,678 runs at an average of 39.15 and a strike rate of 115.54. He also has 11 centuries and 30 half-centuries to his name and is recognized as the third highest scorer in the history of England's ODI cricket with a best score of 162*.

Sri Lanka's Victory and Series Tie

In this match, Sri Lanka secured a 16-run victory over England thanks to a brilliant century from Kusal Mendis. This victory brought the three-match series to a tie at 1-1.

Sri Lanka, opting to bat first, managed to get off to a strong start with partnerships between Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis. Mendis scored 54 runs and Kusal scored 121 runs off 100 balls, contributing to a total of 137 runs for the second wicket. With this performance, Kusal also reached the milestone of 5,000 runs in ODI matches.

Subsequently, with contributions from Pawan Ratnayake (48 runs) and Janith Liyanage (32 runs), Sri Lanka ultimately reached 321 runs in 50 overs. On the other hand, England, with a powerful start from Tom Banton and Ben Duckett, managed to score 143 runs in the opening. However, as time passed, the England team could not maintain this momentum and ended up with 305 runs in 50 overs.

Given this result, it seems that the competition in this series has heated up, and both teams will be preparing to secure victories in the upcoming matches.
