Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, has unveiled its new virtual reality glasses called "Meta VR Glasses." This device is described as "the most advanced device to date" and offers a combination of Meta's artificial intelligence and virtual reality capabilities in a pair of glasses weighing approximately the same as a deck of cards.
Performance and Design of the Glasses
These virtual reality glasses allow users to watch movies, open applications, adjust their workspace, and search using voice commands, eye movements, and hand gestures, without the need for controllers. Meta has stated, "We have integrated the Meta AI directly into the operating system."
The new glasses are five times lighter than the previous model, the Meta Quest 3, due to their two-part design. While the sensors and display are built into the glasses, a separate unit connected via an optical cable handles computational tasks, battery, and storage, and can easily fit in a pocket or bag.
Visual and Audio Features
This device features a 5K Infinite Display based on micro OLED panels, offering 37 pixels per degree to enhance visual clarity and text readability. It also uses specially designed ultra-compact lenses for this device.
The Meta glasses support Dolby Vision for improved color, contrast, and visual detail, and Dolby Atmos is directly integrated into the frames. Additionally, Meta has announced that these glasses are the first virtual reality device certified as IMAX Enhanced, allowing users to experience select films in an expanded IMAX aspect ratio at home.
The company is also collaborating with streaming and entertainment platforms including Prime Video, YouTube, and HBO Max to make more content available to users. It is expected that Meta's content library will expand with thousands of international titles at the launch of the virtual reality glasses.
