The Sultanate of Oman successfully launched the 'Free Dreamer' test rocket as part of the 'Karman X1' mission from the 'Etlaq' spaceport located in the Duqm region. This launch is considered the second successful event for this spaceport following the 'Duqm-1' mission in December 2024.
Details of the Rocket Launch
The 'Free Dreamer' rocket was 4.3 meters long and weighed 26 kilograms. The purpose of this test was to evaluate the rocket's performance during launch and flight stages, as well as to validate the technologies and systems used in it, with no intention of reaching space. This test was specifically designed to assess the technological capabilities and existing infrastructure in Oman.
Team and Future Plans
The team at the 'Etlaq' spaceport had multiple responsibilities in this project, including preparing the launch site, supporting the assembly of rocket components, and managing safety protocols within the launch area. This mission is part of the 'Takween' program initiated by the 'Etlaq' spaceport in 2024, aimed at facilitating suborbital and test rocket launches, enhancing the expertise of Omani teams, and developing commercial launch capabilities.
The Oman News Agency reported that this mission is the first joint collaboration between an Omani launch operator, Stellar Kinetics MCT, and the Singaporean company Okolo Space, with the Australian company Orbit2Orbit providing the rocket's payload. These international collaborations demonstrate Oman's determination to enter the space arena and develop its space programs.
With this success, Oman has taken an important step towards strengthening its space infrastructure and appears to be pursuing the establishment of a sustainable and capable space industry. This launch could also serve as a milestone for attracting foreign investments in the field of space technology and enhancing the scientific and technical level of the country.
