Cristiano Ronaldo, the renowned football star, confirmed that he has left the Portugal national team camp ahead of the team's big match in the UEFA Nations League against Denmark.
Absence in Portugal's Recent Victory
Ronaldo was notably absent in Portugal's recent 2-1 victory against Norway, having remained on the bench for the entire match. He has not trained with the other team members since that game. According to sources, a meeting between Ronaldo, Jorge Jesus, the head coach of Portugal, and Fernando Gomes, the president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), was scheduled for Thursday to resolve this situation.
Ronaldo's Statement on Social Media
Ronaldo announced in a social media post that he decided to leave the national team camp after discussing with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation. He also emphasized that he will soon explain his reasons for leaving the national team and wished success to the national team and his teammates.
He wrote in this post: "After the national team press conference and after talking with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I decided to leave the national team camp. In the future, I will tell the people of Portugal the true reasons for this decision. Now is the time to wish success for Portugal and all my teammates, without exception."
The Portuguese Football Federation has also confirmed that Ronaldo has left the national team camp. In a statement, the FPF announced that the remaining 24 players will continue their training for the upcoming matches against Denmark and Norway, and the team is fully focused on its goals.
The federation also added: "The Portuguese Football Federation reports that Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese national player, has left the national team camp. Training for the matches against Denmark and Norway, the latter of which will be held at the Estádio do Dragão, will continue as scheduled, and all remaining players are fully focused on their national team commitments and achieving defined goals."
Notably, after the Norway game in which Ronaldo did not play, Jorge Jesus said: "This was not the right time for Chris to come in" and added that the game situation led him to change his mind.
