Sohail Tanvir, former Pakistan cricket player, believes that the upcoming clash between India and Pakistan in the 2027 ICC Men's ODI World Cup will once again create a lot of excitement among cricket fans around the world. He emphasized that the quality of the game should be the biggest achievement of this thrilling encounter.

Historic Rivalries of India and Pakistan

India and Pakistan have been placed in the same group for the upcoming World Cup, marking a new chapter in one of the greatest cricket rivalries. Due to geopolitical tensions, bilateral matches between the two countries are no longer held, and these events are largely limited to ICC competitions and the Asia Cup.

Tanvir said about this: "It's always exciting! The whole world is eagerly waiting for these matches. Unfortunately, bilateral series between our countries are no longer held, so we can only witness their battles in ICC tournaments or the Asia Cup."

Pressure and Expectations in Major Clashes

India has a record of 16-1 against Pakistan in World Cup and T20 World Cup competitions. The last match between these two great rivals was India's 19-run victory over Pakistan in the final of the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, which led to India defending its gold medal.

Tanvir said: "Like every cricket lover, I am also eagerly waiting for that game. More importantly, it should be an exciting and close battle. As a cricket fan, what matters most is the quality of the game; whoever wins in the end doesn't matter as long as it's a great competition."

Tanvir, who played in several India-Pakistan encounters during his career, pointed to the pressure surrounding matches and said that the expectations from fans on both sides can often be greater than anything else.

He added: "Look, the immense pressure of public expectations from both sides outweighs everything else. This pressure exists equally for both teams. Specifically in my era, our matches were very tough and closely contested."

However, Tanvir stated that he personally enjoyed the intensity and pressure of playing against India and said that he performs best when faced with challenging situations.

He concluded: "But I personally always enjoyed that intensity. I played a lot of cricket in India—participated in the IPL, traveled to India for two bilateral tours, and in fact, I played my first Test match in India."

Tanvir finally said: "Managing pressure is different for everyone. But undoubtedly, the heaviest pressure on both teams comes from the constant expectations of fans for victory."
