South Africa, considering the importance of the upcoming matches, is giving its key player Kagiso Rabada the chance to demonstrate his readiness for the match before the first Test against Australia on October 9 in Cape Town. Rabada has not played any matches since his game for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League at the end of May, and he is trying to return to the national team in time after suffering a hamstring injury during training in August.

Rabada's Recovery Status

Shukri Conrad, the coach of the South African national team, announced last month that Rabada's recovery is progressing well. The 31-year-old player was seen bowling in Wednesday's training, indicating his determination and effort to return to the field.

Final Decision on Rabada's Participation

Simon Harmer, Rabada's teammate in the Proteas, has indicated that the final decision regarding his participation will be made just a few hours before the start of the first Test. Harmer stated, "We all want him to play. The spectators, us in the dressing room, and the Australians expect that too. I don't exactly know what his status is right now."

He added, "The decision that will be made will definitely be close to the match time. He has shown every season that he is a world-class player and will only help improve our team." Harmer also noted that even if Rabada cannot play in the first Test against Australia, there will still be plenty of opportunities in the coming months for him to make an impact at the Test level.

He emphasized, "I hope he can be present in the first Test, but we have many competitions ahead this summer, and we don't want to take a risk for a short-term game that could lead to a long-term injury."

After the home series against Australia, South Africa will face Bangladesh in a two-match series in November and then will meet England in a three-match series at home in December. Their goal is to defend their title in the World Test Championship (WTC).
