Key partnership in the second innings
The two players came to the crease when South Africa was in a tough spot at 181/5, and they changed the course of the match with a partnership of 154 runs for the sixth wicket. Notably, Rickelton showed how to perform under pressure against the Australian attack, which used eight bowlers to break this partnership.
South Africa started the fourth day at 140/4, looking to build a significant lead. Matthew Britzke assisted Rickelton in the first half of the day but eventually fell for 43 runs. Rickelton then comfortably remained at the crease and reached his century, but was dismissed in an unfortunate situation while running with Mulder.
Mulder continued to maintain his composure in his strokes, adding vital runs for his team. He reached his half-century after 138 balls and later achieved his fourth century with a shot off Nathan Lyon. Although he fell for 36 runs while partnering with Kagiso Rabada for the last wicket, he helped South Africa push their lead close to 300 runs.
Australia, having scored 429 runs in their first innings, now needs 288 runs to win this match. While South Africa requires 10 wickets for victory on the final day, the spin of Newlands and the key role of Simon Harmer for the hosts could be influential. This match promises an exciting conclusion with all possible outcomes on the final day.
