The Russian Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert P. Khorov, stated at the certificate distribution ceremony for the Russian language course at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) that his country is seeking to increase scholarships for Pakistani youth. He emphasized that Pakistani students who are proficient in Russian can benefit from broader opportunities in higher education, research, training, and employment in Russia.
Strengthening Educational Ties Between Pakistan and Russia
Khorov pointed out the importance of educational cooperation between Pakistan and Russia, stating that such collaborations could play a key role in strengthening the historic friendly relations between the two countries. He appreciated Allama Iqbal University’s initiative in promoting the Russian language, adding: "Language promotion is an effective tool in bringing closer the people, educational institutions, and cultures of the two countries."
Learning Russian and Job Opportunities
He emphasized that proficiency in the Russian language could create an important link between Pakistani youth and educational and research institutions in Russia. Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz) also stated at the ceremony that Allama Iqbal Open University plays a significant role in strengthening relations between Pakistan and Russia by promoting the Russian language and culture. Dr. Mahmood congratulated the students who completed the course, saying: "These youth can serve as educational and cultural ambassadors between the two countries."
He also referred to the university's efforts to provide opportunities for learning international languages, adding that this will help students connect with new opportunities in education, research, and employment at an international level. In addition to the Russian language, courses in Turkish and Japanese are also part of the university's vision.
The university's registrar, Raja Omar Younis, announced that the graduation ceremony for the ninth and tenth groups of the three-month course conducted by the Russian Language Center at the university is currently taking place, and classes eleven and twelve will begin soon. Dr. Zahid Majid, Director of International Cooperation and Information Exchange, also referred to the university's efforts to promote cooperation with Russian educational institutions as well as the Russian language, literature, and culture.
He added that several graduates from the Russian Language Center last year succeeded in obtaining scholarships in Russia, and the university is striving to provide more opportunities for Pakistani students to continue their studies and receive scholarships in Russia. At the end of the ceremony, certificates were awarded to students who successfully completed the Russian language course.
