Gaza is facing another humanitarian disaster, where a six-story apartment building in the Tal al-Hawa area of Gaza City suddenly collapsed due to damage sustained in previous Israeli attacks. This heartbreaking incident, which occurred at night, claimed the lives of 21 people, including 12 children.

Details of the Incident

According to local officials, the building, which had four residential units on each floor, completely collapsed onto nearby houses and tents. This building was currently housing over 100 displaced persons and had previously sustained damage from Israeli airstrikes. Relief organizations, after hours of effort, retrieved the bodies of the 21 individuals who were trapped under the rubble.

Images released from al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza show men with tear-filled eyes cradling the bodies of children wrapped in white cloth. Families are bidding farewell to their loved ones, and heartbreaking scenes of grief and sorrow are clearly visible in the hospital. Ahmad al-Jala, a relative of the victims, emphasized that these buildings are "ticking time bombs" and pose significant dangers to residents.

Humanitarian Situation in Gaza

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, which operates under Hamas, the total number of deaths since the onset of the conflict has surpassed 73,700. Many residents of Gaza are forced to live in damaged buildings due to widespread destruction and the lack of safe shelters. Rami Zalakbarov, the UN humanitarian coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territories, expressed sorrow over this incident and stressed the need for safe alternatives for families.

In the wake of this tragedy, the International Red Cross announced that it has provided the necessary materials to assist in search and rescue operations at the request of local authorities. Despite a ceasefire announced under U.S. supervision, Israel continues its attacks and has restricted the entry of construction equipment.

Ultimately, the recent tragedy in Gaza once again highlights the critical humanitarian situation in the region, underscoring the urgent need for action to protect the lives of residents.
