Wayne Rooney, the former striker and record goal scorer for Manchester United, reacted strongly to Bruno Fernandes' criticisms of the current players and labeled them as 'selfish kids.' These remarks came after Manchester United's humiliating 4-1 defeat against Como in the Champions League, exacerbating the deepening crisis at the club.
Crises at Manchester United
Manchester United, with a poor start to the season and sitting in 13th place in the Premier League, has become one of the crisis points in English football. Following the defeat against Como, criticisms of head coach Michael Carrick peaked, and Fernandes pointed to the players' lack of courage, calling for a change in the team's tactics. This situation is compounded by Lisandro Martinez, a Manchester United defender, also criticizing the club's insufficient investment in the transfer market.
Criticism and Accountability
Rooney harshly criticized the players on the 'United Stand' podcast, saying: 'When Martinez criticized, I knew it was a disaster because this could disrupt the dressing room.' He added: 'We are now facing Bruno's criticisms, and soon we will see more problems arise because these players do not want to take responsibility.'
Rooney continued: 'You can argue whether Bruno was right or not, but you must be accountable on the pitch. As a group of players, you need to show your accountability.' The former star also pointed to the selfishness of the players, stating: 'These players only care about themselves and pay no attention to their teammates, the coach, the technical staff, or the fans. They act like kids who throw tantrums if they don't get their way and blame others.'
