Will O'Rourke, the fast bowler for the New Zealand national cricket team, will miss the home series against India due to ongoing treatment for hamstring and left calf injuries. This series is set to begin on Saturday.
O'Rourke's Challenging Return
O'Rourke returned to the national team earlier this year after a severe back injury that kept him out of the field for seven months. However, he suffered a hamstring tear on the last day of the third Test against England, while New Zealand managed to win the ICC World Test Championship with a score of 2-1. He also sustained a calf strain during a training session in late August.
Coaching Staff Decisions for O'Rourke
Rob Walter, New Zealand's head coach, provided explanations regarding the decision to rest O'Rourke, stating: "This is disappointing for Will that he cannot participate in an important home tour against India. He was supposed to be present in both the ODI and Test series, but after further discussions, we all agreed that it is better for him to take more time to recover from both injuries and gradually increase his training load."
He also added: "Our bowling resources will be very important in the coming months, so we have taken a cautious approach to O'Rourke's return to ensure that he is fully ready before returning to the field."
Ultimately, Walter expressed hope that O'Rourke could return for Canterbury in the Plunket Shield matches in late December and ideally be ready for the first Test against Australia in Perth on December 9.
New Zealand Cricket has also announced that it will reveal its ODI squad for the matches against India on October 10. The two teams will start their multi-format tour with five T20 matches beginning on October 22. They will then play as many ODIs as possible on November 4 to prepare for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup next year.
Finally, the two teams will compete in a two-match World Test Championship series on November 19.
