Zain (Zain) and Ooredoo (Ooredoo) have collaborated to launch a new platform for managing telecom towers in the region, which involves the merger of Zain's tower assets in Kuwait and Ooredoo's in Qatar. This first agreement pertains to the integration of nearly 4,000 telecom towers, aiming to create significant value through larger scale and capital efficiency.

Creating Sustainable Infrastructure

This new platform will assist in providing infrastructure as a service and will enable operators to access infrastructure in a more cost-effective manner. This initiative will also support the ongoing development of digital infrastructure in the region. Zain and Ooredoo expect that as this platform expands, additional tower assets will gradually be added to the system, subject to the fulfillment of closing conditions and obtaining necessary approvals from regulatory authorities and other entities.

Statements from Senior Officials

Badr Al-Kharafi, Vice Chairman and CEO of Zain Group, described this agreement as an important step in transforming digital infrastructure for both companies. He emphasized that this agreement reflects their shared strategy to create centralized, scalable, and sustainable platforms that help reduce carbon impacts in the region. Al-Kharafi stated: "We believe that this tower platform will play a significant role in strengthening our digital foundations and will provide the next wave of connectivity, innovation, and economic growth for the communities served."

Aziz Al-Athman Fakhra, CEO of Ooredoo Group, also commented: "The completion of this first agreement is a significant milestone in building a regional telecom towers platform aimed at creating substantial value and a clear pathway for expansion through market partnerships. With this success, we are executing our strategy across all sectors of digital infrastructure and moving towards creating a leading portfolio in the region."

Zain and Ooredoo also announced that each will retain their active communication infrastructure, including the technology, software, and intellectual property necessary to manage their communication networks.
