Oman recorded a 32.7% increase in the Producer Price Index (PPI) in the second half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. This information was published by the National Center for Statistics and Information of Oman and indicates significant growth in various economic sectors of the country.

Price Increases in Mining and Extraction Sector

The 32.7% increase in the Producer Price Index is primarily due to a 31% rise in prices in the mining and extraction sector. This increase is particularly attributed to a 31.9% rise in crude oil and natural gas prices. Additionally, the prices of stone and sand products have increased by 0.5%, while the prices of mineral stones have decreased by 14.3%.

Price Increases in the Manufacturing Sector

In the manufacturing sector, prices have increased by 40.3%, marking the highest rate. This increase is mainly due to a 55.3% rise in the prices of other portable goods. Refined petroleum products have seen an 88.2% increase, and chemical products have risen by 21.4%, showing the highest growth in this sector. Additionally, the group of metallic products, machinery, and equipment has faced a 31.7% price increase, with products made from iron, steel, or aluminum recording the highest growth at 48.9%.

In the food, beverages, and textiles sector, prices have also risen by 2.8%. In this group, the price of shoes has increased by 6.7%, and the price of woven fabrics has risen by 2.8%, showing the most significant growth.

Changes in Water and Electricity Prices

In addition to the increase in production prices, the price of water has risen by 4.4%, and the price of electricity has increased by 13% in the second half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. These changes indicate economic pressure at the macro level and its impact on the daily lives of Omani citizens.

Overall, this significant increase in the Producer Price Index may indicate positive developments in Oman's economy, but there is also a need for careful monitoring of prices and resource management to prevent negative effects of this increase on consumers.
