The ninth UN Global Investment Symposium began yesterday at the Sheraton Grand Doha, returning to the country 14 years after Qatar hosted the third edition of this symposium in 2012.

Symposium Theme and Officials' Attendance

This event, hosted by Qatar in collaboration with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), will continue until Tuesday, October 27, and is held under the title "Investing in the Future." Over 5,000 participants have gathered at this symposium to discuss global investment trends, development priorities, and emerging opportunities in the global economy.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, attended the opening ceremony and engaged in discussions with leaders and high-ranking officials from other countries.

Emphasis on the Importance of International Cooperation

Hamad Mohammed Al-Nasr, Director of Trade Development and Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Qatar, described this symposium as a platform for exchanging experiences, exploring opportunities, and discussing the future of investment in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Marceli Rizi, Head of Communications and External Relations at UNCTAD, referred to governments' priorities in strategic industries and national economic interests, stating that this has led companies to reassess their supply chains, production locations, and vulnerabilities.

Sheikh Mohammed, in a post on the social media platform X, highlighted the role of such symposiums in strengthening cooperation amid regional and global economic challenges, expressing hope that this event would contribute to shaping perspectives and solutions to support the future of investment and the global economy.

Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade of Qatar, emphasized at the symposium's opening that his country is striving to strengthen supply chains, expand export markets, and attract investment in emerging sectors.

This symposium will continue until Tuesday, October 27, covering topics including artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, sustainable financing, tourism, climate change, investment promotion, and special economic zones.
