The Omani Water Sports Federation, headed by Dr. Awad bin Salem Al-Ajili, has introduced new strategies to develop swimming and enhance its quality. This initiative aligns with the goals of the sports sector in accordance with the "Oman 2040" vision.

National Water Sports Strategy (2026–2030)

Dr. Al-Ajili announced that the federation is drafting a national water sports strategy for the years 2026 to 2030. This strategy will focus on increasing attention to swimming, developing training bases, and motivating athletes and coaches. He emphasized the importance of holding training and technical courses for coaches and referees, stating: "Our goal is to discover and nurture talents and develop their technical and physical capabilities."

Development of Specialized Systems and Increasing Participation

Dr. Al-Ajili referred to the transformation of sports towards specialization and added: "This transformation can help in better and more effective organization in training swimmers." According to him, the Omani Water Sports Federation is striving to activate this path in the coming years with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

He also emphasized the importance of Omani presence in the executive committees of Asian and international federations, stating: "Our presence in these entities depends on financial capabilities and the advancement of swimming sports in the country. To host international competitions, it is necessary for talents to reach higher technical levels to compete with rivals at continental and global levels."

He further mentioned the successes of Omani swimmers in recent years, saying: "We have achieved good results in Arab and Gulf competitions in the past years. For example, in long-distance competitions at the Gulf level, Omani swimmers have secured first places."

The Omani Water Sports Federation has also examined the idea of holding periodic competitions in open waters across several provinces of the country. This idea, due to the geographical diversity and beautiful beaches of Oman, could contribute to the development of swimming sports.

Finally, Dr. Al-Ajili highlighted the importance of strengthening the role of women in water sports, stating: "We are working to provide more opportunities for women in this sport by allocating more resources. The first women's special competition was held a few months ago and received a good reception."
