The Qatar national equestrian team is traveling to Japan to participate in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026. This sporting event will be held from September 19 to October 4, 2026, and Qatar will compete in three disciplines: show jumping, dressage, and eventing.
Team Composition and Preparation Plans
The Qatar national equestrian team consists of 10 selected horses for these competitions. The Qatar Equestrian and Modern Pentathlon Federation announced the names of the riders as follows: Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al Thani, Sheikh Fahd bin Jassim Al Thani, Faleh Suwaid Al Ajmi, and Bassem Mohammed in show jumping; Jassim Jaham Al Kuwari and Saud Ahmed Al Bouainin in dressage; and Mohammed Jaber Al Nuaimi, Abdulaziz Ahmed Al Muhannadi, Mohammed Salem Al Marri, and Mohammed Nasser Al Qadhi in eventing.
This team underwent a comprehensive preparation program last summer, focusing on technical and physical training. The goal of this program is to enhance the abilities and skills of the riders ahead of this important continental event.
Competition Schedule and Venue
The equestrian competitions will begin on September 21 with the dressage phase of eventing. The jumping phase will take place on September 23, followed by dressage events continuing from September 25 to 27, while the team jumping competitions will be held on October 1, and the individual phases will follow on October 3 and 4.
These competitions will be held at the Tokyo Equestrian Park, a historic venue that previously hosted equestrian events at the 1964 and 2021 Olympics.
Confidence of the Qatar Equestrian Federation
Badri Al-Darwish, the President of the Qatar Equestrian and Modern Pentathlon Federation, acknowledged that the federation is confident in the abilities, experience, and potential of its riders. He stated: "We have complete confidence in our riders' abilities and expect strong performances in this continental event." He also mentioned the challenges that some of Asia's top riders may pose.
This event also provides valuable experience for Qatar to prepare for the 2030 Asian Games in Doha, which will return to the country for the first time since 2006.
