AI adoption among developed countries, especially in France, the United States, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, has reached rates of 15 to 20 percent. This report published by Goldman Sachs indicates that developed countries are moving more rapidly towards the use of AI technologies compared to emerging countries.

Impact on Employment in Various Industries

According to this report, industries with the highest levels of automation have faced a decline in job opportunities since the second half of 2022. This trend is particularly evident in Germany, Australia, and the United States. Goldman Sachs has stated that the introduction of AI production tools may have prompted companies in high-risk industries to reassess their hiring plans.

Decrease in Employment in Information and Communication Services

Job growth in information and communication services, call centers, software publishing, and advertising has clearly declined. In the United States, the number of employees in information and communication services has fallen below its long-term trend, while in other developed countries, this number has either remained close to or above the historical trend. These patterns indicate that employment issues in the technology sector are globally present, although the negative impacts are particularly more pronounced in the United States.

The decline in employment is especially observed in specific subsets of the labor market in developed countries. For example, employment in call centers in the United States is 39 percent and in Canada 33 percent below the historical trend. These patterns confirm that employment issues caused by AI are clearly visible in industries where automation tools are available.

Stability in Macroeconomic Effects

Despite the decline in employment in specific sectors, the macroeconomic effects have generally remained mild. Goldman Sachs has assessed job risk in over 800 occupations and shown that a 10 percent job risk only affects 0.1 percent of annual employment growth in the United States, France, and Canada. This report emphasizes that employment issues at the macroeconomic level are limited.

However, the findings indicate specific vulnerabilities for entry-level positions and note that young workers face more barriers as companies increasingly integrate automated solutions into the hiring process. Goldman Sachs emphasizes that employment issues related to AI are clearly visible in both formal and informal employment data, but these effects are limited to a specific set of industries and workers.
