The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones of Oman (OPAZ) has recently signed a new contract for road construction and infrastructure improvement in the Duqm Fisheries Industrial Zone. This project aims to enhance the readiness of this area to attract industrial investments and provide the necessary road networks and services to support existing facilities and future expansions.
Project Objective
The main objective of this project is to strengthen the food industries and increase the added value of fisheries resources in this area. Given the importance of fisheries industries for the local and national economy, this project seeks to create suitable and reliable infrastructure for the optimal exploitation of these resources.
Construction Details
This project includes the construction of an internal road network of 8.7 kilometers in length, one-way roads of 7.3 kilometers, and two-way roads of 1.4 kilometers. Additionally, two roundabouts and the installation of traffic lights and road signs are included in this plan. These roads are designed to facilitate access to industrial and service sites.
Moreover, the project includes the construction of sewage networks, drinking water networks, irrigation channels, high and low voltage electricity networks, street lighting systems, and telecommunications channels. These infrastructures are designed to meet the needs of investment projects and facilities in the industrial area.
Importance of Investment in Infrastructure
Investment in infrastructure is one of the key factors for attracting new investments and strengthening local industries. With improved infrastructure, the Duqm Fisheries Industrial Zone will be better able to face international competition and become one of the main investment destinations in the fisheries sector.
This project will not only help increase added value in the food industries but can also lead to job creation and improve the livelihoods of local residents. Given the growing demand for fisheries products, creating suitable infrastructure is an unavoidable necessity.
Conclusion
With the implementation of this project, Oman is moving towards strengthening and developing its fisheries industries, which can play an important role in improving the local and national economy. This initiative seems to be a turning point in the sustainable development of the Duqm region.
