Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, in remarks broadcast on state television on Saturday, blamed the United States for the failure to achieve a temporary agreement with Iran. Pezeshkian stated that negotiations were ongoing and that the Americans disrupted the agreement with their behavior, but he still believes that efforts should be made to reach a new agreement.

Emphasis on Renewed Efforts for Agreement

Pezeshkian stated, "We were in negotiations, but the Americans ruined everything... I still think we should go and finish it," indicating that he is hopeful for diplomatic efforts to reach new agreements. These remarks come at a time when negotiations between Iran and global powers, especially the United States, have faced significant challenges in recent months.

Background and Consequences of Negotiations

The temporary agreement mentioned is part of efforts to reduce tensions in relations between Iran and the United States and has emerged following the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA). After the United States' unilateral withdrawal from this agreement in 2018, Iran gradually ceased to adhere to its commitments under this agreement and continued its uranium enrichment and nuclear activities.

Pezeshkian's remarks come as Iran seeks to strengthen its relations with other countries, including China and Russia, and is looking for diplomatic solutions to its economic and political crises. At the same time, the United States is also under domestic and international pressure to return to a diplomatic path and achieve a sustainable agreement with Iran.

Given these circumstances, Pezeshkian's comments could be seen as a sign of the possibility of resuming negotiations and diplomatic efforts in the near future, but there remains a need for a more precise assessment of the positions of the parties and the impacts of these negotiations on the region and the world.
