The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) obtained 48.6 million Omani Rials on Monday through the allocation of treasury bonds. This action helps strengthen the local financial market and finance the government's current expenses.

Details of Treasury Bonds

The average accepted price was 99.705 Omani Rials for every 100 Omani Rials, and the minimum accepted price also reached this amount. Additionally, bonds worth 28.6 million Omani Rials for a 91-day maturity period were allocated on the same day. The average accepted price was 98.965 Omani Rials for every 100 Omani Rials, and the minimum accepted price was also the same. The average discount rate and average yield were recorded at 4.15137% and 4.19479%, respectively.

The Role and Importance of Treasury Bonds

Treasury bonds are short-term, high-security financial instruments issued by the Ministry of Finance of Oman, allowing authorized commercial banks the opportunity to invest their surplus funds. The Central Bank of Oman, as the issuer's manager, provides additional advantages, including immediate liquidity through discount and repurchase (Repo) facilities.

The interest rate on Repo operations with the Central Bank of Oman is 4.50%, while the discount rate on treasury bond discount facilities is 5.00%. These rates reflect the country's financial and economic conditions as well as the monetary policies of the central bank.

Moreover, treasury bonds contribute to the development of the local money market and help stabilize the economy and finance by creating a benchmark yield curve for short-term interest rates. The government can also resort to this tool in emergencies to finance its current expenses.

Considering that the Central Bank of Oman plays a key role in this process, these actions demonstrate Oman's ability to manage its financial and economic affairs and adapt to global market conditions. Thus, treasury bonds not only help strengthen the domestic financial market but also attract foreign investments and build trust among investors.
