Ali Bagheri Kani, the Deputy for International Affairs of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, is visiting Beijing to consult with Chinese officials and review bilateral and international developments. This trip comes at a time when China's and Oman's diplomatic efforts to contain regional crises are increasing.
Diplomatic Consultations in Beijing
Ali Bagheri Kani's trip to Beijing is seen as part of intensive diplomatic developments aimed at preventing the escalation of tensions between Tehran and Washington. Bagheri Kani has traveled to China to discuss bilateral and regional issues with Chinese officials. The timing of this trip coinciding with Oman's and China's diplomatic activities indicates new dimensions in bilateral relations.

Before Bagheri Kani's trip, reports emerged of a meeting between Wang Yi, China's Foreign Minister, and an Iranian security official in Beijing. This meeting, especially at the current sensitive juncture of regional developments, may indicate deeper political and security communications between Tehran and Beijing. Xi Jinping, China's President, has also emphasized the necessity of resolving disputes through political and diplomatic solutions.
Trilateral Meeting of Iran, China, and Oman
One of the most significant developments on the sidelines of Bagheri Kani's trip is the holding of a trilateral meeting among Iranian, Chinese, and Omani officials in Beijing. This meeting was dedicated to discussing Oman's initiative for mediation between Tehran and Washington and analyzing China's economic and security guarantees in potential agreements. Although the official details of this meeting remain unclear, these diplomatic movements may indicate efforts to reactivate Oman's mediation capacity.
Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, in this meeting, is seeking to bring diplomacy back to the center of regional developments, and it seems that China is also playing an active role in this process to prevent the escalation of war. These developments indicate that Oman has returned to the scene after a period of disappointment in mediation.
Encouragement for Peaceful Negotiations
In the continuation of these consultations, the agreement between China and Oman to encourage Iran and the U.S. to adopt peaceful solutions and resume negotiations between the two sides has also been raised. These positions were expressed during the extensive negotiations between Haitham bin Tariq and Xi Jinping in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing and reflect security and economic concerns in the region.
The Sultan of Oman's visit to China also holds historical significance; as this is the first official visit of an Omani king to China since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1978. The effort to expand economic relations and bilateral cooperation is clearly evident in this trip, and it seems that political and security issues also constitute a significant part of the agenda for this visit.
