Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, during his recent trip to the Gulf countries, succeeded in securing an additional 200,000 tons of diesel each month from the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. This move comes as high fuel prices in France have caused public discontent.

Details of Fuel Supply

The Élysée Palace announced in a statement that this supply includes 100,000 tons of diesel each month from the United Arab Emirates and another 100,000 tons from Bahrain. These shipments are part of France's efforts to alleviate the pressures caused by high fuel prices domestically.

In addition to this supply, France has also committed to securing 295,000 tons of diesel each month from Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which accounts for more than 10 percent of the country's total consumption. This action is part of France's efforts to secure sustainable and diverse energy resources.

Kuwait's Role and New Routes

Kuwait has also committed to supplying diesel and kerosene for France's overseas territories in Mayotte and Réunion in the Indian Ocean. According to this agreement, shipments will be sent via Oman to avoid the Strait of Hormuz, which has been disrupted due to tensions. This action reflects the Gulf countries' efforts to cooperate with France in energy supply and enhance the energy security of the country.

Macron's trip to the Gulf and the agreements reached during this visit come at a time when France is facing serious challenges regarding fuel prices. These actions could strengthen France's economic and political relations with Gulf countries and also provide measures to reduce public discontent in France.

Given France's heavy reliance on energy imports, these agreements could have long-term impacts on the French energy market and the country's relations with energy-producing countries. Especially as climate change and the need for cleaner energy resources are increasing, these collaborations could help solidify the economic and political foundations of these countries.
