The Academy of Special Abilities was officially inaugurated at the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) and under the support of Dr. Leila bint Ahmed Al-Najjar, Minister of Social Development. This initiative aims to develop the professional and technical skills of individuals with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, and Down syndrome, seeking to create new opportunities for their active participation in the labor market and promote greater independence.

Targeting Skill Development

The inauguration of the academy follows a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Social Development and GUtech to implement a vocational training program focused on employment and professional inclusion for individuals with the aforementioned disorders. This program equips participants with basic and advanced skills in working with CNC machines and 3D printing technologies, designed to meet the professional needs of the workplace.

Specialized Educational Model and Job Opportunities

This program is offered by the Omani Institute of Educational Services (OITS) in collaboration with the Academy of Special Abilities in the United States. The educational model used is a combination of technical training, practical application, and individual support that considers the abilities and needs of the participants. The goal of this approach is to enhance skills, boost confidence, and prepare participants for entering professional life.

In the first phase, the academy's program focuses on participants with autism spectrum disorders and includes specialized training in CNC technology. This program will be implemented over a year, consisting of six months of technical and practical training at the university followed by six months of practical training in industrial sites. This structure is designed to provide professional experience and prepare participants for transition to real job opportunities.

Nawal bint AbdulMajid Jawad, Vice President of GUtech for Educational Affairs, stated regarding the inauguration of the academy that the establishment of this academy represents the university's commitment to developing educational and training initiatives that have tangible and sustainable impacts on society. She also emphasized the importance of creating meaningful opportunities that allow individuals to apply their skills and actively participate in the community and economy.
