India has approved a ₹١.٨٦ trillion (approximately $١٩.٤٢ billion) program to strengthen energy networks and expand renewable energy storage. This decision comes as part of the country's efforts to increase renewable energy capacity and meet the growing energy demands. The Minister of Information of India announced on Wednesday that this program includes an allocation of ₹١.٣٦ trillion to strengthen transmission networks at the state level.
Details of the Renewable Energy Program
According to the approved program, this investment will enable the Indian government to transfer up to ١٣٥ gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity. Given the rapid growth of renewable energy capacity in India, this investment is seen as a key step in developing the country's energy transmission infrastructure.

Encouraging Energy Storage
In addition, the Indian government has approved an incentive scheme worth ₹٥٠٠ billion to support the installation of battery energy storage systems with a capacity of ٥٠ gigawatt-hours. This additional storage capacity is designed to store clean electricity generated during the day and improve grid stability. This initiative will help India get closer to its ambitious renewable energy goals.
Overall, India aims to achieve ٥٠٠ gigawatts of non-fossil energy capacity by ٢٠٣٠, up from approximately ٣٠٤ gigawatts currently. This program will not only help meet domestic energy needs but also reduce dependence on fossil fuels and improve the environment.
With the global emphasis on renewable energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, India is on a path of progress and innovation in this field. As one of the largest producers of renewable energy in the world, the country can strengthen its role in combating climate change by implementing such programs.
