India is currently on track to achieve a real GDP growth of 6.5 to 7 percent in the current financial year, according to a report from a reputable financial institution. Nominal GDP growth is also expected to be around 11 to 12 percent. Additionally, corporate revenue growth is projected to increase to 17 percent in the next financial year, up from 14 percent this year, indicating a faster pace.

Stability in India's Structural Growth Story

The institution noted that despite geopolitical challenges and high energy risks, India's structural growth story remains intact, and economic indicators show resilience beyond expectations. Improvement in nominal GDP growth could help increase revenue growth from 14 percent in the current financial year to 17 percent in the next financial year starting in April 2027.

Economic Growth and Domestic Demand

Strong growth in bank credit has been highlighted as one of the key indicators of India's economic momentum. Bank credit increased by 19.1 percent year-on-year by the end of August, and lending to companies grew by 21.6 percent in July. Loans to small and medium enterprises also saw a 24.9 percent increase, influenced by a 17.8 percent growth in deposits in August.

The report also noted a 14.8 percent increase in Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenues in August and emphasized energy demand growth at a rate of 9.4 percent from April to August compared to 1.8 percent from January to March. Residential property sales in the seven major cities also increased by 7 percent in the first seven months of this year compared to last year, while a 1 percent decline was observed in 2025.

Global Impacts and Energy Challenges

However, India's future is influenced by developments in the Middle East, particularly energy prices. At the time of this report, Brent crude oil prices had reached around $106 per barrel, and disruptions in key oil routes have put additional pressure on energy markets. India has so far avoided significant disruptions in energy supply and continues to secure cheap crude oil from Russia and increase energy purchases from the United States.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is expected to raise rates by 50 basis points by the end of 2026, bringing the current rate from 5.25 percent to 5.75 percent. This move could help maintain economic stability and support India's sustainable growth.
