Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, at the ALL IN Summit in San Francisco, emphasized the importance of having independent evaluators for artificial intelligence technology while responding to concerns raised about the potential threats of this technology.
The Need for Independent Evaluation for Artificial Intelligence Technology
Huang stated in his speech that companies must adhere to extraordinary standards. He said: "If we want artificial intelligence to be safe, the first step is to ensure that the laboratories developing this technology are under control and conducting appropriate tests. If we want to have third-party evaluators, this is no different from financial oversight."
He added: "The presence of independent evaluators can help us prevent the potential negative impacts of one company on another. We must build technology safely and ensure that the tests are also safe. These extraordinary technologies must be held to extraordinary standards."
Criticism of Groundless Concerns About Artificial Intelligence
During his speech, Huang received an unexpected call from Donald Trump, the former President of the United States. Trump mentioned the importance of data centers and their impact on the wealth of nations, stating: "This technology is bigger than the internet and artificial intelligence, and we will not allow political figures or even China to hinder its progress."
Huang also responded to criticisms raised about the potential risks of artificial intelligence, saying: "Talking about threatening events may be concerning for some people. However, these scenarios are fabricated, and we must approach this issue logically. Safety must be prioritized, and this is very serious."
Additionally, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, who spoke virtually at the same seminar, emphasized the need to examine peers in artificial intelligence technology and suggested that China should also participate in this process. He said: "By doing this, we can ensure the security of the models and respond quickly if there are concerns."
These discussions were sparked by public statements from Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, regarding the necessity to slow down the development of artificial intelligence. These opinions were also supported by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, and Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google. The discussions became more serious following the public resignation of a former researcher at Anthropic who claimed that companies would soon lose control over artificial intelligence technology.
