Kuwait reviewed the energy transition plan until 2035. In this regard, Dr. Sabih Al-Mukhaizim, the Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, emphasized the importance of developing the energy sector as a national responsibility during the third meeting of the Supreme Energy Committee, which he chairs.

Need for a Comprehensive Plan

Dr. Al-Mukhaizim stated in this meeting that the development of the energy sector requires a clear vision and integrated institutional work that balances current needs with future preparedness. The main goal of this initiative is to strengthen Kuwait's ability to keep pace with population, urban, and economic growth.

He stressed that it is necessary to determine executive priorities and clearly define roles and responsibilities among the relevant institutions. Additionally, each stage of work should be linked to measurable performance indicators so that progress can be effectively monitored and challenges addressed in a timely manner.

Emphasis on Inter-Institutional Cooperation

The Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy also highlighted the need to combine governmental, scientific, and technical expertise to develop practical solutions based on studies and data. This will greatly aid in the planning and execution of projects.

Dr. Al-Mukhaizim said: "The success of this transformation in the energy sector depends on our ability to turn plans into practical projects that enhance the capability for continuous energy supply, increase resource efficiency, and support diversity in the energy mix and the expansion of renewable energy. These goals must align with the priorities and development needs of Kuwait."

He also noted that the work done in this sector will have profound impacts on future generations and necessitates continuous collaboration to build an efficient, flexible, and sustainable energy system.

In this meeting, a report on the activities of the ministry's technical teams, including frameworks, achievements, and main challenges ahead, was presented. Additionally, necessary guidance from the committee for advancing the work was reviewed. Furthermore, a presentation from the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) regarding the results of the consulting study, including the goals for 2035 and 2060, project charters, policies and studies, governance models, and performance indicators was also discussed.
