The Royal Academy of Management of Oman, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, has launched the National Leadership Development Program in the food security sector. This initiative is designed to enhance national efforts to build a sustainable and resilient food security system.

Goals and Educational Programs

The launch ceremony of this program was held under the supervision of Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and its aim is to develop and equip Omani leaders to lead this vital sector and increase its efficiency.

This program is a strategic initiative that focuses on developing active leaders in the national food security agenda, enabling them to pursue a strategic outlook beyond the traditional concept of self-sufficiency. Its goal is to build a more resilient and sustainable model based on risk forecasting, diversification of supply sources, and strengthening integration among sectors and stakeholders in the food security ecosystem.

Participants and Selection Process

This program is dedicated to 35 leaders from the public sector, state-owned enterprises, the private sector, academic and research institutions, the banking sector, and civil society organizations. Participants must have at least 12 years of professional experience, including a minimum of five years in leadership positions, and their selection will be based on clear and precise criteria.

Dr. Fathiya Abdullah Al Rashdi, Deputy President of the Royal Academy of Management, stated that this initiative is a distinctive step towards preparing national leaders who can effectively respond to rapid developments in this sector.

She added: “By developing capabilities in strategic thinking, risk forecasting, decision-making, and creating effective partnerships, we enhance the readiness of the food security ecosystem and turn challenges into sustainable growth opportunities.”

Dr. Masoud Suleiman Al Azri, Director General of Agricultural Marketing and Fisheries at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, stated that this program is an important step in developing national leaders who are capable of navigating challenges and transformations in the food security sector while also contributing to strengthening its resilience and long-term sustainability.

The next phase requires closer collaboration between sectors and the strategic adoption of innovations and emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen the capacity of this sector to meet the national food security goals of Oman.

This program includes three key dimensions: the strategic and intellectual dimension, the investment and development dimension, and the practical and integrated dimension. The three-month educational journey will include three learning modules, field visits to key locations related to the food security ecosystem, and discussion sessions with senior officials and local and international experts.
