Leylah Fernandez, the 24-year-old Canadian tennis player, reached the final of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo after defeating Kamila Rakhimova from Uzbekistan with a score of 7-5 and 6-3. With this success, Fernandez achieved her second consecutive final and demonstrated her pursuit of more titles this season.
Previous Experiences and Mental Readiness
Fernandez, who claimed her championship title at the Singapore tournament last September, also reached the final in Ningbo last week but faced defeat against Elena Rybakina, the world number one. She will now face Diana Shnaider, the world number 13. Shnaider reached the final by overcoming Mia Puhanka from Slovakia in the other semifinal.

In an interview about her recent successes, Fernandez said: "I take pride in my mental readiness. These matches are not easy, and I am happy that I was able to find solutions in difficult moments and maintain my composure." She also noted that after exiting in the third round of the US Open in September, she decided to play more to put herself in challenging situations.
Upcoming Challenges and Team Approach
Fernandez reminded that she and her team concluded that to enhance their skills, they need to participate in more matches. She stated: "We agreed that what I need most is more matches to stay strong in these difficult and uncomfortable situations. While practice is important, it cannot simulate the real challenges on the court."
Diana Shnaider, the 22-year-old Russian player, has also reached the final in her quest for her first title of the year. After defeating Puhanka, she won against Alexandra Eala in the semifinals. Shnaider commented on her efforts: "The work never stops. I prepared physically for this tournament and am happy that I was able to challenge myself again."
The final of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo is significant not only for Fernandez and Shnaider but also for the tennis world, as this event takes place at the end of the season and its results could impact the global rankings.
