Macklemore, the prominent American rapper, emphasized his strong support for the Palestinian people and protest against Israel's war in Gaza at the start of the 'Liberation of Palestine' concert tour in Dublin. This concert was held following his removal as the opening act for Ed Sheeran's tour due to his comments about Palestine and was met with significant enthusiasm from his fans.

Support for the Palestinian People

At this concert, which took place in a country with a majority of pro-Palestinian supporters, Macklemore sent a powerful message to the audience while holding the Palestinian flag. He said, "I am proud to stand here on stage in solidarity with the Palestinian people. We will fight for collective freedom until our last breath." These words were met with intense cheers from the audience, who expressed solidarity by waving Palestinian flags and wearing sportswear in the national colors of Palestine.

Criticism of Suppression of Freedom of Expression

Macklemore went on to criticize the suppression of supportive messages for Palestine, stating, "Six weeks ago, just two words were enough to get me removed from Ed Sheeran's tour. These two words were so threatening that some people prefer to silence them rather than confront their true meaning." He strongly criticized actions that he believes affect freedom of expression and the right to protest.

The audience at the concert supported Macklemore's words with chants of "Free Free Palestine," and 13,000 tickets for this concert sold out quickly. One attendee, Siobhan Lyons, expressed satisfaction with Macklemore's performance, saying, "We need a spokesperson for our time, and he fulfills that need well."

At this concert, Irish artists who had criticized Israel's actions, including Hozier and the rap group Kneecap, also showed their support for Macklemore. Additionally, Palestinian artist Lina Makhlouf and Palestinian-American DJ Habibits performed at the event.

Ed Sheeran, one of the world's best-selling artists, responded to these issues by stating that the owners of the remaining stadiums on future dates threatened to prevent concerts if they continued to collaborate with Macklemore.

Palestinian officials have announced that over 74,000 people have lost their lives in Israeli attacks on Gaza, which began after Hamas's attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. Israeli officials have denied this claim and do not consider their actions in Gaza to be crimes against humanity.

The 'Liberation of Palestine' tour will soon continue in Paris and London, and Macklemore has announced that new dates for concerts in the United States will be announced shortly.
