Niclas Füllkrug saved Werder Bremen from defeat against Dortmund with a goal in stoppage time, leveling the game at 2-2. This match took place as part of the Bundesliga, and Dortmund, who was at the top of the table until that moment, could not maintain their lead.
Dortmund Controls the Game
Dortmund had possession control from the start of the game, but despite this, they struggled to break through Werder Bremen's solid defense. Ludovit Reis created the first serious threat for Bremen in the 37th minute, but his shot went just wide of the Dortmund goal. Additionally, Marcel Sabitzer could not score from a free kick, and Bremen's goalkeeper, Karl Heinz, successfully saved Maximilian Bayer's shot.

Dortmund's Surge in the Second Half
At the start of the second half, Dortmund came out with more urgency. Nico Schlotterbeck and Ethan Nwaneri threatened Bremen's goal in quick succession, but Heinz again denied Nwaneri from close range. Nwaneri then threatened Bremen's goal with an acrobatic shot, but the referee stopped the play for an attacking foul. On the other side, Füllkrug had a rare opportunity to score, but Gregor Kobel managed to save his shot.
Finally, Dortmund scored in the 80th minute. This goal resulted from a counterattack in which Daniel Swensen opened the scoring from close range. Five minutes later, Schlotterbeck scored the second goal with a header from a corner by Joï Wirmann, and it seemed that Dortmund had control of the game.
Remarkable Comeback by Werder Bremen
However, Werder Bremen, like in the game against Augsburg, achieved a remarkable comeback in the 88th minute. Reis hit the post with a shot from inside the penalty area. Then, Marco Grüll sent a free kick for Füllkrug in stoppage time, who scored the equalizer with a header, bringing a valuable point for Bremen.
This draw kept Dortmund at the top of the table with 13 points from five games, while Werder Bremen climbed to fourth place with 8 points. Bayern Munich and Freiburg, with three points less and one game in hand, are among the teams that have yet to play in the fifth round of the competition.
Dortmund will face Bodo/Glimt in their next match in the UEFA Champions League and then will meet Union Berlin. Werder Bremen will also host Paderborn in their next Bundesliga match.
