North Korea (کره شمالی) launched about twelve short-range ballistic missiles on its eastern coast on October 19, 2023. This military action comes less than a week after South Korea (کره جنوبی) proposed military talks to resolve border disputes.

South Korea's Proposal for Military Talks and North Korea's Response
Last week, South Korea proposed military talks aimed at "accurately confirming the border position" and discussing the revival of communication channels. However, Pyongyang (پیونگیانگ) has not responded to this proposal. Kim Yo Jong (کیم یو جونگ), the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un (کیم جونگ اون), described the proposal from South Korean President Lee Jae Myung (لی جائه میونگ) as the "height of absurdity."
The two Koreas remain technically at war, as the Korean War from 1950 to 1953 ended in a ceasefire rather than a peace treaty. The escalating tensions also come as recent efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump (دونالد ترامپ) to improve relations with North Korea have raised concerns about the potential sidelining of Seoul (سئول) in any nuclear negotiations. Trump has recently appeared to downplay the likelihood of a summit and described his relationship with Kim as "very good."
Earlier this month, North Korea launched several short-range ballistic missiles a day after Trump suggested that the two countries might meet this year. These developments indicate that the situation on the Korean Peninsula remains complex and unstable, necessitating further diplomatic attention and action.
