Olympic Day 2026 took place on Monday at the 'Village' located in northern Al Hail, with the participation of over 800 individuals from various segments of society in activities organized by the Oman Olympic Committee. This event was under the patronage of His Excellency Sayyid Izzat bin Qais Al Said, Chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee, and attended by board members of the committee and a number of citizens from different age groups. The event promoted sports, awareness, entertainment, and social participation while introducing Olympic values and principles.

Sports Activities and Awareness Raising

The event was widely welcomed by citizens and residents of various ages, along with several sports personalities and representatives of participating organizations. Participants engaged in a variety of programs, including sports activities, interactive experiences, awareness booths, and entertainment areas, providing an opportunity for physical activity and familiarization with several Olympic sports in an open social environment.

The Olympic Day activities began with a 1.7-kilometer walk along the northern Al Hail coastal road. This walk, which gathered participants of various ages, emphasized the importance of physical activity and collective participation. This segment was one of the key highlights of the event, adding to its appeal alongside various sports activities conducted in designated areas throughout the venue.

Competitions and Challenges

The sports program included a variety of sports and activities such as taekwondo, karate, athletics, badminton, table tennis, tug of war, sepaktakraw, 3x3 basketball, wheelchair basketball, and tennis. Participants had the opportunity to learn and experience these sports while interacting with athletes, specialists, and coaches. The goal of this program was to bring sports closer to community members and encourage them to explore sports that align with their interests and abilities.

The event also featured a 'Strongest Man' competition, providing participants with the opportunity to test their physical abilities through various strength challenges, including a car-lifting challenge and a log-lifting challenge. This competition added a fresh competitive element to the Olympic Day sports program and attracted significant attention from attendees.

As part of the accompanying programs, participants were announced as winners of the 'Fitness Challenge' held in the weeks prior. Final measurements were taken on Olympic Day, and winners were announced, concluding the event and emphasizing the importance of maintaining physical activity and adopting healthy habits in daily life.

The awareness section of this event drew special attention, with several supporting committees of the Oman Olympic Committee participating. The Oman Sports Medicine Committee provided information and guidance on athlete health and safety in physical activities, while the Oman Anti-Doping Committee addressed the issue of sports integrity and the importance of adhering to clean and responsible sports practices.

The Women's Sports and Equal Opportunities Committee also delivered awareness messages regarding women's participation and presence in sports. The Sports for Sustainable Environment Committee addressed issues related to environmental sustainability and the role of sports and community in protecting the environment.

The event also included several social and awareness booths in collaboration with the Oman Diamond Association and the Oman Cancer Association. A medical screening section was also held in collaboration with several health centers in Al Seeb, providing awareness services and screenings to attendees.

Children and families were a significant part of Olympic Day activities, with special areas for sports and entertainment activities including skateboarding, painting and coloring, face painting, and various games and interactive activities. These areas provided an engaging space for families and children to participate and enjoy the event, linking movement and physical activity with play and everyday experiences.

This event emphasized the importance of expanding the concept of sports participation to include all members of the community, not limited to athletes and specialists. Through a series of simple and diverse activities that can be enjoyed collectively, participants became familiar with various sports and found opportunities to experience and interact with them.

This event also demonstrated the Oman Olympic Committee's commitment to strengthening the presence of sports in the community and promoting Olympic values based on respect, cooperation, participation, and excellence.
