Oman achieved remarkable growth in its hospitality sector in 2025, with the number of hotels reaching 1,475 units, marking a 43.1% increase compared to the previous year. This report from the National Center for Statistics and Information of Oman indicates that the Al Batinah South Governorate, with 313 hotels, is recognized as the largest hotel center in the country.
Expansion of Various Governorates
In addition to Al Batinah South, Muscat Governorate with 271 hotels and Al Dakhiliyah Governorate with 209 hotels follow in the rankings. Other governorates such as Al Sharqiyah South with 207 hotels and Dhofar with 114 hotels have also been added to this list. These figures reflect the growth and expansion of the tourism industry in various regions of Oman.
Increase in Accommodation Capacity and Employment
The significant increase in accommodation capacity in Oman is part of the country's efforts to strengthen the tourism industry as a key factor in economic diversification. With this growth, the number of employees in hotel activities reached 28,478 in 2025, including 9,292 Omanis and 19,186 non-Omani workers. This means that Omanis constitute nearly one-third of the workforce in this sector.
Meanwhile, hotel revenues have also seen a significant increase, reaching 359 million Omani Rials in 2025, which represents a 22.3% increase compared to 293.4 million Omani Rials in 2024. These figures indicate the expansion of the hospitality industry from various aspects: accommodation capacity is rapidly increasing, revenues are growing at a desirable rate, and employment has also risen in parallel with this increase.
Strengthening the Tourism Economy
Given that Al Batinah South is now leading in the number of hotels, the distribution of hotels also highlights the growing importance of governorates outside traditional tourist centers. While Muscat is still recognized as an important market in the hospitality industry, the spread of hotel activities in the Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, Dhofar, and Al Sharqiyah governorates indicates a more geographically diverse tourism economy.
These developments and advancements in Oman's hospitality industry promise a bright future for the country in attracting both domestic and international tourists, as well as strengthening its economy.
