Oman proudly hosts the week of senior maritime competitions, which will be held from October 15 to 21, 2026, at the Masirah Resort. This important event, featuring over 100 young sailors from across the region, is recognized as an international platform for high-quality competitions.

Simultaneous Hosting of the Arab Women's Championship

This edition of the competitions holds special significance due to the simultaneous hosting of the third Arab Women's Maritime Championship. This championship, in collaboration with the Oman Maritime Sports Committee and the Arab Maritime Federation, will host 30 female sailors from the Optimist, ILCA 4, and ILCA 6 classes. This event not only promotes maritime sports but also focuses on the development of inclusive sports and progress at both grassroots and elite levels.

International Pathways for Young Talents

The competitions will take place at the Masirah Sailing School, recognized as a high-standard performance center by the Asian Sailing Federation. This event provides a unique opportunity for young sailors to enhance their skills and enter international competitions.

Registration and measurement of sailors will take place on October 15 and 16, followed by briefing sessions, training, and the official start of competitions on October 18. Sailors will participate in various classes including Optimist, Optimist Juniors, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, ILCA 7, and Para Inclusive Hansa 303 and RS Venture Connect, with up to four races held each day, culminating in an awards ceremony on October 21.

Environmental Importance and Sustainable Development

The week of Masirah competitions is recognized as a clean regatta, adhering to Oman’s environmental standards. This event includes a ban on single-use plastics, comprehensive recycling initiatives, and community beach cleanup programs. These efforts reflect Oman’s commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable development.

Abdulaziz Salem Al-Shidi, Executive Director of Sailing in Oman, highlighted the developmental importance of these two championships, stating: "The week of Masirah competitions plays a vital role in our regional talent development strategy and helps discover grassroots talents and connect with international competitions. Hosting this edition alongside the third Arab Women's Maritime Championship showcases the remarkable progress of sports in Oman and the region."

Sheikh Khalifa Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Arab Maritime Federation, also emphasized the regional significance of the women's championship, stating: "The third Arab Women's Maritime Championship is a significant step for maritime sports in the Arab world. By bringing together talented female sailors from across the region, we create an excellent competition and build a sustainable and inclusive future for this sport."

This event serves as a catalyst for social change and youth empowerment, directly contributing to several pillars of Oman Vision 2040.

The week of Masirah competitions is held with the support of strategic partner the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and Experience Oman, along with support from Masirah Resort and National Mineral Water Company (Tanuf) and the Oman Maritime Sports Committee.
