Oman: The report "Remittances from Workers in Gulf Countries Abroad 2025," published by the Gulf Statistical Center, shows that Gulf countries collectively registered the highest global value in remittances sent abroad by workers. The total of these remittances has reached nearly $161 billion, reflecting a 13.6% growth compared to 2024, equivalent to an increase of about $19 billion.
Continuous Growth of Worker Remittances
This increase has occurred while foreign labor continues to be attracted to Gulf countries and is simultaneously associated with the expansion of economic activities related to infrastructure projects, services, industry, and non-oil sectors.

The report emphasizes that the total remittances from workers in Gulf countries have increased for the second consecutive year, reaching their highest level in 2025. The ratio of worker remittances to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Gulf countries reached about 6.6% in 2025, while this ratio was around 6% in 2024, about 5.7% in 2023, and approximately 5.6% in 2022.
Economic Importance of Remittances
This ratio indicates the relative weight of worker remittances compared to the size of the economies of Gulf countries and does not, by itself, indicate an improvement or decline in economic performance. The global standing of Gulf countries becomes particularly evident when their total remittances are compared with amounts recorded in some major economies. According to the data in this report, remittances from the United States reached about $107 billion, from Switzerland about $43 billion, from Germany about $27 billion, and from France about $21 billion.
These remittances hold significance beyond their direct financial value, as they help support household incomes, consumption, and economic and social stability in recipient countries. They also reflect the economic weight of the Gulf countries regionally, their role in global financial flows, and their connection to the global economy.
