Satya Nadella, President and CEO of Microsoft, emphasized Microsoft's commitment to enhancing AI opportunities in India on Thursday at the "IDEAS4INDIA: Indian American Tech CEOs Forum | Unlocking the Tech Dividend" conference held by the Consulate General of India in Seattle. He noted that India is preparing to have the largest developer community in the world by 2030, highlighting the "creativity of the human workforce in India."
Microsoft's Commitment to the Future of AI in India
Nadella, as a special guest at the event, stressed the importance of building infrastructure, skills, and independent capabilities for the future of AI in India. He pointed to the creativity and innovation of the human workforce in India, noting that this creativity will help Microsoft and other tech companies achieve greater growth and advancements in this field.
This conference was held as a follow-up to the India AI Impact Summit in 2026, aiming to leverage the expertise of the Indian-American tech community based in the Greater Seattle area. Over 40 CEOs and CTOs from major Indian-origin tech companies, including Microsoft, Amazon, and Boeing, attended the event. These individuals work in various fields, including AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, and enterprise software, with many having been at the forefront of innovative technologies for over three decades.
Discussions and Collaborations in Technology
During this conference, an interactive session was held where participating CEOs shared their insights and suggestions to strengthen tech collaborations between India and the United States. Topics discussed included AI infrastructure, data centers, semiconductor design and manufacturing, collaboration in quantum research, talent and skills training, as well as aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries.
The Indian Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra, welcomed the participants in his speech and praised their willingness to deepen tech collaborations between India and the United States. He also reiterated the Indian government's commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to ensure that India's AI mission is based on the principles of "inclusivity, openness, governance, democratic access, safety, and trust."
The forum began with a minute of silence in memory of two Indian-American tech pioneers from Seattle who recently passed away. Samir Bodas, co-founder and CEO of Icertis, and S. Somashekar, CEO of Madrona Venture Group and former Vice President at Microsoft, were among those honored. Their contributions to the development of the Seattle tech ecosystem and support for Indian-origin startups were acknowledged.
Microsoft also recently announced that it will invest $17.5 billion in India over four years from 2026 to 2029, marking the company's largest investment in Asia. Additionally, Amazon plans to invest $48 billion between 2026 and 2030, which includes expanding AWS data center capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
This forum was the first of its kind among Indian-American tech leaders in Seattle and is expected to serve as an important platform for strengthening tech collaborations between India and the United States, particularly under the umbrella of the India-U.S. TRUST initiative. As part of this initiative, India and the United States are working to connect their innovation ecosystems and advance collaborations in AI, quantum, semiconductors, space, telecom, and biotechnology.
