Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of Russia, in remarks made today, Sunday, emphasized the importance of maintaining close cooperation with the member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council. He pointed out that solutions should be sought that address the roots of regional crises and prevent the escalation of tensions.
The Necessity of Convergence in Resolving Regional Crises
Lavrov continued his remarks by referring to the situation in Yemen and stated that in the strategic dialogue between Russia and the Gulf Cooperation Council held in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, solutions for this crisis were discussed. He also welcomed the efforts of regional mediators who are seeking to reduce tensions.

The Russian Foreign Minister also referred to Trump's plan for Gaza, stating that this plan has remained only on paper and its principles have not yet reached the implementation stage. He emphasized that these principles have not been operationalized in practice, which is a matter of concern.
The Need for Diplomatic Solutions in Conflicts
Lavrov also stressed the necessity of a political and diplomatic resolution to the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Ansar Allah (the Yemeni army and fighters). He considered the current situation in the Middle East to be alarming and warned that the region is on the brink of a full-scale war. In his view, the roots of the conflict surrounding the Strait of Hormuz must be addressed.
The Russian Foreign Minister, referring to the "Islamabad Memorandum" between Iran and the U.S., regarded this document as containing all the necessary components to restore the situation in the Strait of Hormuz to a diplomatic path. He described the U.S. approach to Iran as ineffective and unconstructive, stating: "This approach does not help at all in finding a solution or achieving stability in the region."
In conclusion, Lavrov also addressed issues related to Ukraine and spoke about the unwillingness of Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, to negotiate. He stated that Zelensky has repeatedly obstructed negotiations in the past, and Europeans are trying to preserve Zelensky's regime against challenges instead of solving the problem.
