Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who is attending the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, met and discussed with Tom Brandson, the Dutch Foreign Minister, on September 22, 2026.
Bilaterial Relations and Regional Issues
In this meeting, both sides examined the bilateral relations between Iran and the Netherlands as well as regional and international issues. Araghchi criticized the double standards of European countries regarding regional developments, especially their silence and complacency towards the aggressive actions and crimes committed by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran, stating: "European countries cannot claim to support the rule of law and human rights on one hand while being indifferent to the blatant military aggression of the United States and Israel against Iran and even supporting it on the other hand."
Diplomacy as a Solution
Araghchi also recalled Iran's responsible approach in using diplomacy to eliminate the United States' pretexts regarding the nuclear issue, considering the repeated violations of agreements by the United States and its warmongering as the main cause of current insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized: "The only way to restore peace and stability in the region is to stop the illegal and aggressive actions of the United States and to respect Iran's national rights and interests."
The Dutch Foreign Minister also emphasized the importance of using diplomacy in this meeting and outlined his country's views on the ongoing regional developments and interactions between Iran and Europe. This meeting reflects the diplomatic efforts of both countries to maintain stability and security in the region and to prevent the escalation of tensions.
