Sultan of Oman and President of Angola Sign New Agreements

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and the President of the Republic of Angola, João Manuel Lourenço, today celebrated the exchange of several agreements between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Angola in a grand ceremony at the Presidential Palace in the Angolan capital, Luanda.

Details of the Signed Agreements

As part of Sultan Haitham's official visit to Angola, the two countries signed five agreements, eight memoranda of understanding, and one executive program in the fields of politics, economy, and investment. These agreements include visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic, special, and service passports, technical cooperation between the governments of the two countries, elimination of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion and avoidance, air transport, and a framework agreement regarding logistical services and defense industries in the Republic of Angola.

Memoranda of Understanding and Executive Programs

The signed memoranda of understanding also include political consultations and training, promoting investment, agriculture and livestock, a memorandum of understanding between the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Angola Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the energy sector regarding potential cooperation in upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors in the Republic of Angola, renewable energies for the development of a 500-megawatt project with battery energy storage system (BESS) under the independent power producer (IPP) model in the Republic of Angola, and a non-binding memorandum of understanding regarding potential cooperation in oil field services and technologies.

The two countries also signed an executive program for technical cooperation and a contract for the modernization, upgrading, and expansion of the water distribution network in Luanda Province.

Signing of Agreements by Officials from Both Countries

The agreements, memoranda of understanding, and executive program were signed on behalf of Oman by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Anwar bin Hilal Al Jabri, Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion; Abdullah bin Nasser Al Rahbi, Non-Resident Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Angola; Ashraf bin Hamad Al Maamari, CEO of OQ; Qais bin Saud Al Zakwani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Maabar Investment Company; and Khalid bin Sultan Al Janubi, CEO of Desert Oil and Gas Company.

On the other hand, the agreements were signed on behalf of Angola by Téte António, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Isaac Francisco Maria dos Anjos, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry; João Baptista Borges, Minister of Energy and Water; Vincent Francisco Soares, President of the Angola Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Luís Manuel da Fonseca, Chairman of the Board of SIMPORTEX; Salanje Nadine Galamba Joyce, Chairwoman of the Board of Public Water Company (EPAL); Feliciano António Catulo, Executive Director of Public Water Company (EPAL); and Sebastião Gaspar Martins, CEO of Sonangol.
