The Sultanate of Oman is striving to elevate bilateral relations to new levels by expanding its cooperation with the Republic of Kazakhstan. His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq will soon travel to Kazakhstan as part of these efforts to discuss new areas of cooperation with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

History and Importance of Relations

The relations between Oman and Kazakhstan date back over three decades and are based on mutual respect and ongoing cooperation. Oman was one of the first countries to recognize Kazakhstan's independence, and since then, bilateral cooperation in various fields, including economic and political, has expanded. According to published statistics, the volume of trade exchange between the two countries reached 421.5 thousand Omani rials in 2025, which increased to 22 million and 883.7 thousand Omani rials in the first half of 2026.

Development of Economic and Cultural Cooperation

The visit of His Majesty the Sultan to Kazakhstan is particularly significant as it marks the first visit by an Omani Sultan to this country. This visit symbolizes the friendly and long-standing relations between the two countries, and it is expected that several agreements and memoranda of understanding will be signed in various fields, including air transport, investment, information technology, and agriculture.

The Omani ambassador to Kazakhstan, Sheikh Dr. Salah bin Salim Jaboub, emphasized that this visit could enhance the relations between the two countries and subsequently create new avenues for economic cooperation. Among the key projects is the establishment of a joint Oman-Kazakhstan committee to follow up on agreements and turn them into tangible projects.

Additionally, the development of cooperation in logistics and transportation will also be among the key objectives of this visit. Oman is recognized as a logistical route for Kazakhstan in the region, and cooperation in exporting agricultural products such as wheat from Kazakhstan to Oman could help strengthen these relations.

The visit of His Majesty the Sultan could also contribute to increasing tourism between the two countries and facilitating the movement of citizens of Kazakhstan and Oman. In recent years, the number of Omani tourists to Kazakhstan and vice versa has significantly increased.

The Kazakh ambassador to Oman highlighted the benefits that have arisen during this period and noted that political and economic cooperation is developing, which in turn will help strengthen bilateral relations. He also added that these high-level visits and meetings help build trust and expand practical cooperation between the two countries.
